Wow, I'm overwhelmed, the congratulatory comments are pouring in. Thank you all for your kind words about our cabin. We're leaving next Thursday to spend the long Canada Day weekend up there and I can't wait to get in the car.
And thank you all for the recommendations for hubby's socks. I am following popular opinion and will knit 2x2 rib socks. And I'm going to use this yarn and 3.5 mm needles.
So, with that, I thought I had my projects in order and then my mother threw a wrench in the works. She called this morning and with no prompting said she'd like me to knit her a poncho for her birthday. I had sort of planned to give her the Snowdrop Shawl that I'm knitting as part of the Barefoot Cobbler's informal KAL. Now the shawl will have to find a new home.
So I went online to see what patterns are out there. There are thousands upon thousands of patterns - way to many for my short attention span and little patience to look through. Would you happen to have any favourites?

If you are looking for fast and not too fancy, you can knit one in the round from the top down with some simple increases. You can use fancy yarn and let it do all the work. (I made a couple during the poncho craze that were striped - great way to use up leftover yarn) Let me know - I'll scribble it down for you.

I know of several good poncho patterns but a couple of questions first. Is it for summer or winter wear. Does she want it dense and warm or light and airy? Once you know want she wants, I can send you the links to several good patterns.

Oh, congrats on the cabin. That view is so wonderful! I currently knitting Wisp from Knitty, which is a scarf/shawl/poncho. The pattern is easy and it looks beautiful. :)
Have a great weekend!

I'm sure your mom would appreciate the shawl and the poncho for her bday! I haven't
any poncho patterns to share with you--but I do hope you find a nice simple one!

As for the poncho pattern, I'm with Becky here, that's a really fantastic idea that she had!
This yarn is absolutely beautiful, what a great colorway - I'm curious to see how it'll knit up, but I'm sure that these socks are going to be awesome!

there are about 8 different styles/shape options for poncho's. (i blogged about this long ago (when my blog was new)
all of them are pretty simple--and all can be gussied up -with cables, with fair isle, with lace, all sorts of ways.
find the shape you like, and then the yarn, and design your own!
its pretty hard to go wrong with a poncho--the only thing you need to fit is the neck opening!

Thanks for the comment on the blog. :) That purple/lavendar yarn I named Goodbye, My Love was for sale...but I sold it over the weekend. That was a happy accident while experiementing with dye, but I hope I can create it again...it was my favorite one so far. :)
