Yarn Contest

I thought I'd spice up the middle of the week with a yarn contest. This is my first contest, so forgive me if I'm not doing this quite the right way. I wanted to make this a little more quirky. So I thought about a little informal research into one of the most divise habits people have - coffee drinkers versus tea drinkers. I'm curious what knitters lean towards? Yes, there are lots of useless thoughts rattling around in my brain. Just humour me.

So, here goes. I'm giving away a beautiful lace yarn in beige colours, hand-dyed by a local Vancouver Island woman, Judy Maclean. It's called Island Hues, 100% Merino wool lace weight.

It's the yarn on the right in the below picture.

I'm currently knitting YarnHarlot's Snowdrop Shawl in the blue yarn on the left and it is exquisite.

So, just leave your preference, coffee or tea in the comments (and if you have any funny coffee/tea stories or preferences do share), and I will draw a winner at random on July 4. You have a week to enter.

kim:

I've been drinking coffee since first grade (my mom didn't know any better). No wonder I never wanted to go to bed at night!

Coffee all the way for me!

I'm from Seattle - coffee it is!

keri:

Both! =)

Coffee in the morning and tea at night.

Okay, here is my entry. I am a tea drinker. I do not drink coffee at all. My favorite tea is Green Tea. We also have a jar of sun tea brewing nearly every day during the summer. My husband, on the other hand, drinks coffee only. I have seen him drink tea only once or twice since we have been together and that was only because he ran out of coffee.

Jen:

I am a coffee person. Well, actually, I don't drink a lot of either one, but I like to meet my friends for coffee, so I guess that makes me a coffee person. :)

Tea for sure. Chai tea is my very favorite. Coffee smells good but it tastes VILE so I never developed the habit.

twig:

Well it depends. If we're talking about a hot drink. It's coffee all the way. No sugar. No milk. Just straight and strong. I don't want anything to dilute the caffeine. My husband makes a 12 cup pot every morning and has ONE cup. I finish the rest.

If we're talking about a cold drink, it's tea, iced, preferably Lipton. No lemon, no sugar. Just straight and tea-y.

I don't drink iced coffee and I hate hot tea.

So does that make me a coffee person or a tea person? Either way, I'm definitely a caffeine person.

Miri:

Yup, both for me, too, although coffee is a must-have in the mornings and tea is a leisure item.

I've been in Arizona for 2 years and am totally dying for a Timmy's Iced Cap! Thankfully, we fly home for vacation tomorrow and there's a Tim's at the airport in Ottawa!

Ann:

I don't usually join contests but this one is really unique & interesting & so I must have a go. I drink coffee (with lots of milk) in the morning & chai tea after dinner. When I was pregnant, I couldn't stand the smell & taste of coffee & this always happen when I am in a plane! Thanks for organising this.

Bea:

I'm a coffee drinker all the way! I have a cute story about my husband and coffee, which he also loves to drink. When he was a toddler, in the mornings when he woke up, he would walk in the kitchen and pitifully as for "wooofffeeee". His mom would make him coffee in his bottle, a mixture of milk, a little sugar, and a tiny bit of coffee. He now blames this for being 6' instead of 6'3" like his brother.

I drink coffee in the morning and afternoon - but drink herb tea at night. Currently I'm on a red tea thing...as long as its decaf, I'll drink it!

coffee black.
Iced in the summer, hot in the winter.
No sugar --but some sweetener in the ice coffee.
(once in a while, a bit of Mahattan Special (sweetened carbonated (soda) expresso.

i grew up with tea drinking irish parents, and i can't stand black (pekoe) tea.

oolong is drinkable (bearly) green is the best of the lot, (and it still taste medicinal to me!)

I like water too, (NYC has great water--and i drink lots of it!)

I had to chime in because I'm not really a drinker of either but if I had to choose, it'd be tea..there's two that I like-ginger tea and calm which is a zen tea.

Nicole:

I like a good cup of coffee now and then, but I'm more of a tea drinker. I'm not at all a fan of instant coffee, and I find tea much easier to prepare just one cup of, so unless there are other people who want coffee I'll have tea. I drink black and green teas and a wide variety of herbal infusions, so tea gives me more variety too.

I drink coffee and mostly during the week at work. I drink it non stop until lunch time. On the weekends I have one each morning from Dunkin Donuts. I usually only drink tea if I have an upset stomach.

I bet that was way more information than you wanted to know!

Ahhhh! Daily DOSES of coffee for me!:)

Congratulations on your cabin. You must be so excited!

Tea for me. My family has always had tea together when we visit. Nothing fancy, just regular strong caffeinated tea. I love Earl Grey especially.

Ariel:

Tea definitely. I can't stand the way coffee smells. But tea, oh yum :-)

April Smith:

I'm a tea drinker - and being from "the South" its Iced & "hurt your fillings" sweet!

Yay for contests! But I can't decide - I'm as addicted to tea as I am to coffee! A day without coffee? Can't imagine that. There are a couple of days in my life that I spend without tea, so it seems I'm more of a coffee nut at least ;)
